Hi all,

We have a new story for you. This story was started for our Historical Challenge a long while back. It's a longer story so it's been cut up. You'll get the first three chapters today and this post will be updated till the story is complete. Keep an eye out on the site or our Twitter for new updates.

We hope you'll enjoy it!

Little side note;
Brian was the given lifer for this challenge. For the sake of the story (and the scripter/writer's laziness :p)  he's not been scripted. You can still pick a lifer of your liking but if Brian is your fave you're gonna need to pick one of the others to keep the story readable ;)

Monique

Omg I could not read this fast enough! It was so sad to read how his father had passed almost as soon as he got home but now it's going to be interesting to see where else this new role takes him.

And what role this young woman plays in his life. And also if Brian is as loyal as it might imply.

Brilliant! Cannot wait to read the next chapters.

Wow, amazing start, Monique! Love this, of course. But yeah, you got me hooked with the start!

Brilliant!

Haha. Jess, you're saying all the right things ;) Those were exactly the things I wanted you to wonder about so I'm glad that filtered through.

Kaz, I've got you hooked no matter what :p Thanks for taking the time to leave another comment haha

Update!

Holy crap! Just when I thought the ending of chapter five left a hanger, the end of chapter six was even worse! This is all becoming so intense and I love it!

Brian really is turning into a person not to be trusted. There is something about him that gives an off feeling. Of course he can blame the girl for starting the fire. That way if it was him no one would ever guess. He's supposed to be the best friend/brother, right? No one would even look at him. Especially the main character.

Speaking of, there is so much chemistry between the male and female you can't help but want to see them together. And I can't wait to see what happens with that stone. Ahh! Fantastic!

OMG that is just mean!! You can't leave a cliff hanger like that!! There are more questions now than before.

And really, Brian can seriously not be trusted. He's up to something but it's a matter of what and when.

Can I curse on here?! Because there are so many nasty things to say about that mother****er! How dare he!

He is so jealous it's ridiculous. Oh I seriously hope Lord sees him for who he really is. And soon.

ARGH!

Okay. Gonna be honest, I know how this goes but I'm re-reading it here because its one hell of a great read, and, Monique, I still stand by everything I've said, this is seriously one of the best historicals I've read.

I can't wait to re-read the next part when it goes up. I love seeing that everyone else's reaction has been similar to my thoughts when I was reading it.

You're too good, Monique! xxx

WHAT! You can't leave it like that! Oh that two-faced jerk! So he thinks he's entitled to the Lord's thorn? Is he kidding? And of course he was the one behind the poison in the food. Oooohhh cannot wait until the the Lord knows what he's up to!

Didn't see that ending coming. Well, not for one person anyway. Maybe it's just me but I would like to see a few years down road but it would be pointless. Haha Said it before and will say it again, it was one of the most well written stories and it hooked you in from the very beginning. Wonderful job.

Actually I wanted to take some time for this post, let's see how much they grant me :)
Monique, I really liked your story. It was extremely well written and the way you described the scenery, the characters and the surroundings was simply amazing. What I liked the most was your bad character Brian. You know he actually is my favourite/second favourite, but you built him up really well! And we have to admit, he makes a damn good bad guy!! ;) He was always there, always around, but never really in the centre of attention, nevertheless I felt watched by him, stared at secretly and I was always kind of subliminally afraid of him.
My own character was a little too new age/loving nature/ dancing in the rain from time to time ;) But you played her so well and it really drew me into her and I was her completely whenever I read again. His lordship, well, what a cutey  I totally enjoyed that he is not always in charge, not sure about himself and always doubting a little. Also a perfect characterization that is not cliché. He is not the lord, the hero, he is a simply guy that has to take over from his dead father, that made him human to me.
The whole story was like a movie, I almost saw you playing with the lights outside, different seasons used like filters and the darkness of the fortress. Keep that, make me watch a movie in my head, it was awesome, thumps up, both! And toes! All of them ;)

Ha, I always feel like cheating, upping the comments on my own stories. But seriously, I love all them comments so much, I had to go back in and just do it haha.

Thank you all for every comment big and small. They are so very much appreciated. I've enjoyed writing this story so much, it's lovely to see you all enjoy it too!

@Jess; The ending... Killing him off didn't seem cruel enough Mwuahaha :p Part of me wants to write more of this story, somewhere in my mind there's still ideas simmering, mainly about the female leads past. And an evil Brian is always welcome for that of course haha But it's all very much maybe still really. There's so many other stories I want to do and have started.

Noa; that comment of yours is almost a story of its own! haha I love it. It's so helpful too. The way you described the different characters, that's pretty much how I thought of them too. Brian was perfect as a bad boy! I love him a bit now :p haha
As for the female lead, she was a bit too 'new-age-y' for my liking too. I struggled with her the most because I wanted her to be so much different from my usual female leads. I wanted her to be a bit of a mystery but I was forever afraid that she stayed too much of a mystery to really be able to connect to her. Ugh.
My dear Lord (Mark <3) was perfect from beginning to end though haha He always pulled me through whenever I was stuck. He's the best!
But yeah, all your praise has me a bit giddy haha Teeheee! Thanks ;)

Ahhhh we've come to the end. Bless. I can't believe how much I still love this story. You're one hell of a writer, Monique. It was fantastic.

Re-reading this made me realise that, like Noa, I actually enjoyed Brian in this. Granted, I'm biased, he was my fave, once upon a time, but his character, man, you wrote it so well. As much as I said he was a toad, he gave the story some twists and turns. I'd still kick him in the balls if I could. :)

Thanks for sharing this with us, it was such a great read! xx
